EARLY CHILDHOOD SCREENING
Minnesota Statute 1123.702 states that it is mandatory for every child to go through the Early Childhood Screening process in order to attend public kindergarten. Dassel-Cokato District #466 has developed a screening program that is FREE to every child age 3.5 to 5 within the district, whether you are planning to have your child attend public, private, or home school. It is beneficial to complete the screening process as close to 3.5 as possible to identify possible health and learning concerns at an early age in order to help prevent them from becoming more serious. A well-qualified staff of nurses, licensed early childhood teachers, social workers, and trained personel will check your child's vision, hearing, growth, immunization status, and development. If concerns are discovered during the screening process, additional evaluation is available to determine what kind of assistance would be most beneficial to the child. Screening at an early age gives children time to work on areas of concern before entering kindergarten.
Every effort is made to contact all families with young children ages 3.5 to 5 in need of screening. Please call 320-286-4120 if you have a child within these ages and have not received a letter or postcard.
