Play 'n' Learn Preschool
(School Readiness)
The Dassel-Cokato Play 'n' Learn Preschool is a public school program for 3 1/2 to 5-year-old children. A young child's brain is poised to take in and process stonishing amounts of information during their preschool years. At Play 'n' Learn, we are committed to provide pportunities for children to have purposeful play opportunities so that learning can take place. Understanding that young children learn best through play, our licensed teachers intentionally set up the classroom environments to encourage play and exploration following research-based curriculum and the State of MN Early Learning Standards. If a child is curious and is encouraged to take a hands-on approach to explore and problem solve his/her experience with those materials will be much more rich and meaningful. We are so excited to welcome your children into our classroom where Learning through Play is a priority.

State of MN Early Learning Standards
-
Our preschool teachers follow these research-based standards while planning lessons and classroom centers. This Minnesota Framework includes: Social & Emotional Development, Approaches to Learning, Language & Literacy Development, Creativity & the Arts, Cognitive Development, and Physical & Motor Development.

Everyday Math
- This math curriculum is used in our preschool classrooms as well as grades kindergarten through 4 throughout our school district. Everyday Math incorporates math into the day to day activities of the classroom. These hands-on, playful math activities are built to help our preschoolers explore math concepts such as: Counting, Measurement, Shapes, Patterning, Graphing, Number Concepts and Data Gathering. All this learning achieved through purposeful play!

Assessment Tools - With the assessment tools listed below, our teachers are able to track language, literacy and basic concepts related to school readiness for preschool students and share the results with their parents/caregivers.
myIGDIs - Individual Growth & Development Indicators - Developed by the University of Minnesota, this assessment tracks the growth and development of preschoolers. These tools measure preschool language and literacy using three assessments: Picture Naming, Rhyming, and Alliteration (knowledge of the beginning sounds of words).
Bracken School Readiness Assessment - This tool assesses the basic concepts related to school readiness: Colors, Letters, Numbers & Counting, Size & Comparison, and Shapes.
